Ok, so is there any way to determine that based on the mission description, in-mission message or base description? Sounds like the event triggers, when working correctly, arenÆt apparent at all. Exploration is great, and all that, but there seems to be absolutely no balance between risk/reward and time/reward. There are so many tools that you could use to make these missions and finds to be more immersive.
So you have to pound on the battlestation to flush out the quarry? Fine, but donÆt train the players to ignore such a structure. As it stands, no one with a weeks worth of experience Exploring would ever waste their time destroying the stations or, in fact, most large collideable structures because they donÆt drop worthwhile anything. It is your fault that they didnÆt shoot down that structure, not theirs CCP. No in-mission indication that this might be something to do; and indirectly training players to ignore such structures due to their complete worthlessness loot wise. Well, you have communication towers, info shards etc. etc. Why not make one such thing a hacking target that yields something logical like a æpersonel logÆ or æstation traffic reportÆ that would tell players that their quarry has gone to ground within the station.
There seems to be a æfeast or famineÆ dynamic with exploration right now, where the majority of finds are of limited value, with the rare æpot of goldÆ that is ridiculously valuable. Some people are obviously getting lucky, others run through missions or complexes that have easily accessible equivalents through non-Exploration means that offer substantially better rewards. Are you doing anything about the loot tables? Where are the æincidentalÆ rewards to be found by running these minor complexes?
Now, all complaining aside I think that this Exploration thing is going in the right direction to be a helluva lot of fun. One of my most compelling PvP experiences came from exploration, in a quite unlikely fashion. I found a Large asteroid belt filled with Ochre and Gneiss in a 0.4 system. I sold the bookmark for a set amount plus 5% of the ultimate yield to a friendÆs production corp. Long story short, another corp also found the belt and I spent my time arranging mercenaries to free it up again so the production corp could get back in to better inflate my 5% cut. I was unsuccessful, but it was great PvP that can only happen in EVE. ItÆs compelling stuff, to be sure. But while that belt was worth hundreds of millions, IÆve yet to find more than one or two million worth in other finds.
